W reakcji na wypowiedź wiceprezydenta USA, Mike’a Pence’a z 15 lutego 2019 r. na Konferencji Bezpieczeństwa w Monachium, w której oskarżył Iran o antysemityzm przypominający nazistów[1], irański minister spraw zagranicznych Dżavad Zarif odpowiedział w wywiadzie z 16 lutego 2019 r. dla niemieckiej gazety „Der Spiegel”, że Iran nie jest antysemicki i że „zawsze wspierał Żydów”, że jest „przeciwko syjonistom” i że „Holocaust był nieszczęściem”[2].
