Tal como lo hizo hace 20 años luego de los sucesos del 11/S, el gobierno de los Estados Unidos está comenzando nuevamente a abordar la tremenda necesidad de obtener traducciones confiables, en especial de los idiomas ruso y chino. El mes pasado, el representante Joaquín Castro de Texas presentó un proyecto de ley bipartidista para crear un centro de traducción y análisis de China y Rusia financiado con fondos federales, diciendo que para «competir y cooperar» con China y Rusia, debe existir «una mejor comprensión de esos países» – y que tal comprensión es prácticamente «imposible sin leer el cómo se comunican estos países en sus propios idiomas».
Sobre este posible centro futuro, el representante Mike Gallagher (WI) enfatizó que para «combatir la amenaza que representa el Partido Comunista Chino, tenemos que leer y comprender las fuentes primarias del PCCh»; el representante Bill Keating (MA) señaló que este entendimiento es «crucial para que Estados Unidos y nuestros aliados defiendan el estado de derecho, las sociedades democráticas y las normas internacionales»; y el representante Brian Fitzpatrick (PA) dijo que el centro «ayudara en nuestros esfuerzos para obtener y analizar documentos extranjeros y mejorar las comunicaciones con países alrededor del mundo».
